Over 1.018 Million People Affected By Norovirus This Festive Season.

By on December 29, 2012

The level of infection of the Norovirus also known as the winter vomiting bug is currently running at almost twice of the same time last year.

Tests carried out by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) have confirmed 3,538 cases of norovirus this season with over 1.018million people infected with the virus already.

Although the illness usually resolves in one or two days and there are no long-term effects, the virus is very unpleasant with symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, temperature, headache and stomach cramps.

The norovirus can be transmitted by consumption of contaminated food or water, contact with contaminated surfaces, objects or with an infected person. To help prevent the spread of the disease, it is recommended that people who have been infected stay away from hospitals, schools and open environments.
