Health Problems and Complications From Drinking Too Much Water.

Lots of people have died from health complications caused by intake of too much water. This post is about all the health problems and complications that arise from drinking too much water. It is a general believe that water is very good for the body but just like approximately every other thing in this world, too much of it is bad and the health problems that it causes can be very very severe.

On the previous post in this category, I published the 7 great reasons to drink water and also some facts you should know about water. You can read that post here. Today I am going to continue from where I stopped then and on this post I will be sharing with you ways to develop a healthy water drinking habit and also the health problems caused by taking too much water. It is very important to develop a healthy water drinking habit in order to be able to benefit all the importance of water but like every other habit, it takes a lot of determination and practice. Below are some of the major ways to develop a healthy water drinking habit.

  • Substitute soda, cola, alcohol, coffee and other drinks you often drink with water.
  • By taking a bottle of water along with you wherever you go can also be very useful. This method has been proven to be of great benefit as you are more likely to drink water if it is readily available and closer to you.
  • If you are a very busy person, it’s okay if you set a reminder on your computer, phone, wall clock or by any other means to ring by the time you are likely to be thirsty during the day. With this method you will be constantly reminded to drink water.
  • Most important thing to do when developing a new habit like drinking water is to keep track of how fast you are progressing. Take note of the times you ignored the alarm/reminders, take note of the times you did not take a bottle of water with you and know the factors behind those reasons. Once you take note of your shortcomings, it will make it easier for you to correct them and thus help you in developing you new habit.

Health Problems From Drinking Too Much Water.

Over the years there has been a lot of controversy over how much volume of water is dangerous to the human health and how much volume is safe. Some people believe that benefits of taking healthy volume of water daily is a myth even though science has proven them wrong while others maintain that though an healthy intake of water is good for body, it is also dangerous when the volume of water in the body is too much. From the research I carried out during the course of writing this post, below are some of the health problems/complications that may arise from the intake of too much water.

  • Loss Of Sleep :

The habit of drinking too much water too frequent within short term interval causes diminished concentration instead of improving it. Study shows that many of these people suffer loss of sleep because they have to wake up at night to go to the toilet. After urinating, the chances of being able to sleep back is very lean as most of them suffer discomfort in their stomach region and often turn in bed with their eyes wide open through out the rest of the night.

  • Hyponatraemia:

This is a fatal condition that occurs when water is too much in the body which results to over-hydration and causes a drop in the salt level of the body. Some parts of the brain gets swollen in most cases. Early symptoms of this disease includes nausea, confusion, incoherent speech et.c. I am currently carrying out a research on this disease to help create more awareness. I will publish it on this website as soon as I’m done with the research.   • Water Intoxication:

This complication arises when too much volume of water is taken at the same time. In most cases when this condition killed people, it was discovered from the autopsy report, that the volume of water in the body was too much to the extent that other nutrients in the body were diluted. This condition leads to an imbalance of electrolyte in the body and often leads to Hyponatraemia discussed above. In situations where water intoxication is the case, it leads to extreme Hyponatraemia which eventually results to coma and death.

  • Excessive drinking of chlorinated water increases the risk of developing bladder cancer by approximately 80%.
  • According to cardiologist, cold water after meal is very dangerous after meal as it coagulates the oil present in the food that has just been taken and these frozen oil line the intestine which after a long period of time can be cancerous. Hot soup or warm water are recommended after meal.

From the above health problems and complication that arise from drinking too much water, Hyponatraemia is the most severe and yet only a few percentage of people are aware of its existence.
